Industries we build for

MSB Group design, fabricate and build steel frame buildings for seven industries across the UK. Every industry on this page is one we have completed buildings in — not a list of markets we would like to enter.

A grain store, a chocolate factory and a self storage facility are all steel frame buildings. They are not the same project. Loading, floor tolerance, ventilation, fire strategy, planning route and phasing all change depending on what happens inside.

Industry knowledge, built in from the first drawing

A contractor who has built in your industry already knows those constraints before you explain them. Because MSB fabricate structural steelwork in-house at our Forest of Dean facility and act as principal contractor on site, industry requirements are designed in at the start rather than resolved through change orders later.

Every industry below links to the buildings we deliver, the projects we have completed, and the services that make up the package.

Why industry experience changes the build

The structural frame is rarely the hard part. What separates a straightforward project from a difficult one is usually industry-specific — and none of it is discovered on site if the contractor has built in the industry before.

01

Floor specification

A machinery store and a distribution centre need very different slab tolerances and load ratings.

02

Programme constraints

A showground has a fixed window between seasons. A working factory cannot stop production. A retail unit has a trading date already committed to.

03

Planning route

Agricultural buildings may fall under permitted development. Roadside retail typically needs highway works agreed before anything starts.

04

Regulatory environment

Food production, fire compartmentation and vehicle maintenance each bring their own compliance requirements into the design.

05

Brand specification

Dealerships and national retail operators build to a corporate standard the contractor has to meet exactly.

How We Work, Whatever the Industry

Six stages, one contract
01

Brief and feasibility

We visit the site, understand the operational requirement and produce an indicative cost range before you commit to anything.

02

Design and planning

Architectural and structural drawings prepared in-house, and the planning application managed including any industry-specific consents.

03

In-house fabrication

Your structural steelwork is manufactured in the Forest of Dean. Your project sits in our own order book, not a third-party fabricator's queue.

04

Groundworks and foundations

Designed to your ground conditions and to the loads your operation will actually impose on the slab.

05

Erection and envelope

Our own site team erects the frame and installs cladding, roofing and industrial doors as one package.

06

Fit-out and handover

Internal fit-out, M&E and external works can sit within the same contract. One handover, one accountable party.

One contract, whatever you build

Most steel building delays come from the gaps between contractors. The fabricator misses the programme. The groundworks team overruns. The cladding contractor arrives late. Every handover is a point where accountability can be argued about.

MSB remove those gaps. We design, fabricate, build and clad under a single contract, with our own team on site. If something needs resolving, there is one company to call.
